As the movie ‘Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior’ celebrates its four-year anniversary, actor Sharad Kelkar reflects on his experience playing the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the film, describing it as a “dream come true.”
Directed by Om Raut and released in 2020, the movie features Ajay Devgn, Kajol, Saif Ali Khan, Neha Sharma, Sharad Kelkar, and Luke Kenny, tracing the life of Maratha warrior Tanaji Malusare.
Expressing his sentiments about the role, Sharad Kelkar shares, “Tanhaji will be one of my most favorite memories. Firstly, playing the role of my favorite Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and to work with Ajay Devgn and Saif Ali Khan, it was like a dream come true.” The actor expresses gratitude for the immense love he received for portraying the iconic historical figure, emphasizing the ongoing appreciation he receives.
Set in the 17th century, the film revolves around Tanaji’s efforts to reclaim the Kondhana fortress, which falls under the control of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, subsequently transferred to his trusted guard Udaybhan Singh Rathore. Sharad Kelkar acknowledges director Om Raut for providing him with the significant opportunity to portray this pivotal historical role.
