Mahabharat actor Parveen Kumar Sobti who played Bheem dies- RIP

Pravin Kumar Sobti, popular for essaying the role of Bheem in BR Chopra’s Mahabharat, has died at the age of 75. Kumar’s daughter Nikunika told “He passed away yesterday around 9.30 pm. He suffered a heart attack. He died at home in Delhi.”

Before he stepped into the acting world, he was a hammer and discus throw events at International sporting events. The veteran actor won the silver medal in the hammer throw in the 1966 Commonwealth Games held in Kingston, Jamaica. He also won four medals for India in the Asian Games – two Golds in the discus throw event in the 1966 and 1970 Asian Games held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Talking about his movies, he entered the industry in the early 1980s and did brief cameos in films like Raksha, Hum Hain Lajawab, Agnee and Yudh. He was also a part of Shahenshah starring Amitabh Bachchan. He essayed the role of Mukhtar Singh in the film. After starring as Bheem in Mahabharata, he became a household name.
Apart from acting, he was also into politics. He had contested the Delhi Assembly elections on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket in 2013. He lost and later joined BJP.
