  • Dharmputra was was the first Hindi film to depict the partition of India.
  • The film was directed by Yash Chopra ,brother of B.R. Chopra.This was the 2nd directorial venture of him after successful Dhool ka fool.
  • The film starred Shashi Kapoor, Mala Sinha, Rehman, and Manmohan Krishna, among others, and its music was composed by N. Dutta, with lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi.
  • It was based on a novel of the same name by Acharya Chatursen and dealt with the sensitive issue of partition and its impact on families and society.
  • The movie won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi in 1962 and was well-received both critically and commercially.
  • The movie was banned in Pakistan due to its portrayal of Muslim characters and their actions during the partition.
