Lionsgate has announced that it will release a new and remastered 4K edition of Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary. The release date is set for the end of this year. However, details about additional content and footage in this version have not yet been revealed.
Additionally, Lionsgate has obtained distribution rights for both “Kill Bill” films and “Jackie Brown,” adding to their portfolio of Tarantino movies. The company already holds the rights to other Tarantino films like “Reservoir Dogs,” “Inglourious Basterds,” “Django Unchained,” “The Hateful Eight,” and “Death Proof.” Previously, some of these movies were released by The Weinstein Company or Miramax.
Lionsgate reported better-than-expected quarterly earnings, largely due to the success of “John Wick: Chapter 4.” The company aims to expand the “John Wick Universe” and has completed production on a spinoff film titled “Ballerina,” featuring Ana de Armas, which is scheduled for release in June 2024. Additionally, Lionsgate is preparing to launch a prequel television event series called “The Continental” on Peacock and Amazon. CEO Jon Feltheimer hinted at further expansion of the John Wick franchise, stating that they are planning multiple additional spinoffs.
