The clash between Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Saawariya” and Farah Khan’s “Om Shanti Om” indeed marked a significant moment in Bollywood history, and Farah Khan’s recent revelation sheds light on the behind-the-scenes dynamics and how the clash impacted the fate of both films.
In an old interview that recently resurfaced, Farah Khan expressed her disappointment, suggesting that the clash with “Saawariya” affected the box office performance of “Om Shanti Om.” She mentioned that if the clash hadn’t happened, “Om Shanti Om” could have potentially crossed the Rs 100 crore mark, making it the first film to achieve such a milestone at that time.
The director, speaking to an entertainment portal shared her feelings, stating, “I feel so bad, if they had not released with us, we would have been the first movie in the history of Bollywood to earn Rs 100 crore. We stopped short at Rs 83 crore or something, and it was a record that we set 10 years back.”
Farah Khan also highlighted the ego clashes that often occur in the industry, emphasizing that everyone wanted to release their films on the same date. She acknowledged that it was a learning experience and that clashes like these are driven by ego problems.
“That was the first time my movie was clashing with somebody, and Shah Rukh Khan was very gungho and Sanjay was also very gungho. It just became really bad,” she added.
