Sayani Gupta was born on 9 October 1985 in Calcutta(now Kolkata) in West Bengal.
She studied at the reputed Film and Television Institute of India in Pune and also worked with Atul Kumar’s Company Theatre in Mumbai before making her start in Bollywood .
She debuted with a role as a blind Pakistani gay activist, Khanum in ‘Margarita, With a Straw.’ She starred opposite Kalki Koechlin and was lauded for her performance in the movie directed by Anurag Kashyap.
Then she made her feature film debut in 2012 in Second Marriage Dot Com.
Sayani seeks her inspiration from people like Iranian director Asghar Farhadi, who made the academy award-winning film, A Separation (2012).
