Dev Anand’s Sau Crore (1991) was ready for release and faced backlash from a political group in mumbai at that time over its leading lady’s nationality.
Actually Anand had introduced a new actress Fatima Sheikh in the movie and the party claimed she was a Pakistani spy. Anand personally visited the political leader at his mumbai residence and gave proof that sheikh was indeed an Indian national who was born and brought up in Gujarat, India and had no connection with Pakistan.
Finally the movie release was allowed but the controversy put an abrupt end to sheikh’s acting career.
