Santoor maestro Shivkumar Sharma passed away in Mumbai at 84. He lent his music to many Yash Chopra films, becoming a fan favourite. Pandit Shivkumar Sharma had been suffering from kidney-related ailments for the past six months and was undergoing dialysis.
Recently, we spotted Amitabh Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bachchan at the late Santoor player’s Mumbai residence to pay their last tribute to the legend.
Recipient of the prestigious Padma Shri in 1991 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2001, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma is known for making the santoor a popular classical instrument.
Soon after his passing away, many influential personalities from the country offered their condolences. This included Prime Minister Narendra Modi, composer Vishal Dadlani, actor Manoj Bajpayee, and others.
The funeral of the music maestro Pandit Shivkumar Sharma will reportedly commence at 3 pm today (May 11) at Vile Parle’s Pawan Hans Crematorium. His son Rahul Sharma will perform the last rites.
