- Dosti received six Filmfare Awards, including Best Film in opposition to Raj Kapoor’s Sangam (1964).Also got a National Award (Best Film Feature in Hindi), too. It was also screened at the Moscow International Film Festival 1965 as the official Indian entry.
- The film had wide release of 90 prints that time which was an extraordinary number that time.
- Mr Ramraj Nahata, editor of Film Information called up Tarachand Barjatya and congratulated and said that the advance booking queue has come up to his office. The theater was inside the lane and his office was on the main road.”
- Satyan Bose was very first choice for the director.
- Music played big part in films success.The songs became all time classic’s. Songs of the film are still remembered as cult classics.
- Music director Roshan was the original choicve for this movie but couldn’t make it due to other work commitments so Laxmikant Pyarelal were brought on the board and they did the music of the film and shot to fame after its success.
- “Chahunga Main Tujhe Saanjh Savere” had a cover version in the song “Bring It Inna Bottle” by Humter and Peter Ram.

- It was made on a very low budget made huge profits.Its second weekend did extremely well and it collected 2 Crore at the box office.
- Tarachand Barjatya took newcomers in the film as he always wanted to work with them.But couldn’t do in his debut film Aarti 1962.Hence he caste Sudhir Kumar and Sushil Kumar.
- Sushil Kumar and Sudhir Kumar became stars with the film. But their career never took off.
- After the success of the film Sushil Kumar and Sudhir Kumar were under the underworld scanner for extortion of money.
- It was a remake of Bengali film Lalu Bhulu (1959). Tarachand Barjatya saw the original film in Kolkata and was asked by producer Deepchandji Kakaria to remake it in Hindi.
- Sanjay Khan a newcomer that time also got noted for his supporting role.
Dosti features the Pomeranian dog ‘Toffee’ in a very adorable role. Decades later, Rajshri’s another classic movie Hum Aapke Hain Koun featured a Pomeranian ‘Tuffey’ in a similar manner.
