Waheeda Rehman’s entry into the film industry was not a planned one.
In the 1950s, while Waheeda was still studying in Chennai, a crew from the film industry visited her college looking for a fresh face to feature in a Tamil film called “Roja”. Though Waheeda was not interested in acting, her friends and the film crew convinced her to audition for the role, and she landed the part.
Following her debut in “Roja”, Waheeda went on to act in several other Tamil films before being offered a role in the Hindi film “C.I.D.”
in 1956. The film was a commercial success and marked Waheeda’s entry into the Hindi film industry. She soon became known for her performances in films like “Pyaasa”, “Kaagaz Ke Phool”, and “Guide”, and went on to establish herself as one of the leading actresses of her time.
