Raksha Bandhan has taken a slow but decent start at the box office on Thursday (1st day) morning shows. This is on expected lines as the film got low advance booking prior to its release. Raksha Bandhan despite being an Akshay Kumar film will depend on word of mouth opening now.
Raksha Bandhan has taken an opening of 15% or so in the morning shows today. Samples are from multiplexes only. The opening is slow but not that bad either considering the film is releasing on a good number of screens across India and it has the potential to grow big in the latter half of the day.
However, in ideal circumstances, an opening of 20-25% would have been much better. A 15% opening means the film will struggle to touch a double-digit score for the day unless the film shows a significant increase in occupancy at least from the evening shows onwards. A double-digit or even more is still a possibility but for that to happen film needs to pick up in later shows .
Raksha Bandhan is clashing with another biggie in Laal Singh Chaddha. Because of the box office clash, it will definitely have a negative impact at the box office. But again screens are enough and occupancy is low that excuse is more or less invalid now. Had there been a shortage of showings and high occupancy then that would have been a factor.
The box office clash factor might still exist if any of the films of both the films sees a good jump in occupancy from here on. Then screen shortage issue may come on Saturday or Sunday. But looking at the start that factor is more or less nullified for the time being.
