Amol Palekar is an actor who is known for playing common middle class man in Hindi movies .His entry into movies was through his involvement with the theatre group ‘Aniket’, which he co-founded in 1967.
He wrote and acted in several plays with the group, and one of them, ‘Chayamoy’, caught the attention of acclaimed filmmaker Basu Chatterjee.
Chatterjee was impressed with Palekar’s acting skills and cast him in the lead role in his film ‘Rajnigandha’ (1974).
The film was a critical and commercial success, marking the beginning of Palekar’s successful film career. He went on to star in many other memorable films like ‘Chhoti Si Baat’ (1975), ‘Gol Maal’ (1979), and ‘Baaton Baaton Mein’ (1979), among others. He also directed many movies like Anahat (film),Ankahee (1985 film),Bangarwadi,Daayraa,Dhyaas Parva,Dum Kaata,Paheli,Quest (2006 film),Samaantar, Thodasa Roomani Ho Jayen (1990).
